Exercise: Creating Your Relationship To Time
Action
- Create an honest assessment of your time. Grab a pen and paper.
- Step 1: Write down the number 24.
- Step 2: Write down the hours you work each day.
- Step 3: Write down the ideal hours you sleep each day.
- Step 4: Write down how much time you spend eating each day.
- Step 5: Write down how much time you spend on your non-negotiables each day.
- Step 6: Keep writing down every area where you spend time (gym, reading, getting ready, etc).
- Step 7: Subtract each from 24 as you go. You'll get a candid look at where your time goes and how much you have available.
- Step 8: Add in the things you want to do, in 15 minute increments.
Reminders
- Shrink how long you think something takes. You might tell yourself the gym takes an hour, so you skip it. What if you shrunk it to 15 minutes? Do this for everything you want to do but feel you can't fit in.
- Look at where you spend the most time. Do you love it? If not, that's a red flag.
- If you aren't doing things you love every day, prioritize them first.
