How to Use AI to Grow Your Audience as a Solopreneur (the Distribution System I Actually Run)

Rob Cressy
TL;DR
  • The bottleneck for solopreneurs is no longer building. It is distribution. Learning how to use AI to grow your audience as a solopreneur starts with getting what you already make in front of the right people.
  • I rebuilt my whole website with AI and now run a content production line that turns one transcript into one AEO-optimized blog post. The receipts: 3,200 visits a month, one post pulling 1,000 of them, and about 13,000 AI-crawler requests in seven days.
  • The move that changed everything was treating every piece of content as part of one connected system that points back to my own authority.
  • Show people what is possible. Most builders are not short on capability. They are short on visibility.

Why is distribution the real bottleneck for solopreneurs using AI?

If you want to know how to use AI to grow your audience as a solopreneur, start here. The thing holding you back is almost never the building. You can build with AI all day. The hole in the boat is distribution.

I was on a call last week with a peer I compare notes with. Both of us build prolifically. Both of us ship things most people have never seen. And we landed on the same realization at the same moment. We are great at the work. We are not great at getting the work seen.

She told me a story that made it concrete. She filmed a quick walkthrough of a real deliverable she runs for clients and posted it in a private group. Seven people messaged her within a day asking how to get that run on their own business. She was stunned. She had been doing that work every day and treating it like no big deal. The moment she showed it, demand appeared.

That is the whole game. Information versus distribution. Everyone has information now. The solopreneurs who grow are the ones who solve distribution.

How do I use AI to grow my audience as a solopreneur without burning out?

The answer is a production line, not more hustle. I run a process where every transcript I create becomes an AEO-optimized blog post. After a call, I use the Fathom integration inside Claude to push the transcript into a Notion inbox. A skill pulls the best nuggets out of it. Another skill drafts the post. It checks my validated keyword list, writes against what is proven, then runs a polish pass so the post sounds like me and not like a robot. The last step turns it into code I can publish to my site.

I built each piece the moment I hit the manual version of it. I was writing blog posts by hand. I noticed the same steps every time. So I made a skill. Then another. Six skills became the entire process. That is how you use AI to grow your audience as a solopreneur without grinding yourself into the ground. You turn a thing you already do into a system that runs while you sleep.

The path matters here. Semi-autonomous first, then autonomous. One day I approved nine posts in a row by hand and thought, this is the day I stop doing this manually. That is the signal. When the manual version annoys you, that is the spec for the next build. I wrote more about this approach in how I built an AI second brain in Notion, which is the foundation the whole production line sits on.

What does an AI content production line actually look like?

Think of it like printing a newspaper. Not one heroic post. A new edition, every single time, on a line that does not stop.

Here is the shape of mine:

  1. Capture the source. A call, a coaching session, a voice note. The transcript is the raw material.
  2. Mine the gold. Pull the real insights, the quotes, the stories. This is what makes the content yours.
  3. Match it to demand. Cross-reference against a validated keyword list so you write what people actually search for.
  4. Draft and polish. Get it written, then run a pass that puts your voice and energy back in.
  5. Publish and link. Push it live and wire it into the rest of your work.

The reason this beats posting at random is the source. The transcript is the biggest trust signal Google rewards. It is real experience, real expertise, real proof you lived this. When a post traces back to an actual conversation you had, it earns authority that generic AI synthesis never will. I broke down the search side of this in how I optimized my entire website for AI search.

How does AI search and AEO help a solopreneur grow an audience?

This is where the compounding lives. AEO is drip, drip, drip. Build, build, build. Volume. It does not pop overnight. It works, and it keeps working.

Let me give you the receipts so this is not theory. I tore down my old website and rebuilt the AI version with Claude Code. That site now gets 3,200 visits a month. One post, about a single Claude Code setting, pulls 1,000 of those visits on its own. In the last seven days my site had close to 13,000 requests from AI crawlers. That is what happens when you optimize for how AI assistants read and cite the web.

Here is the part most people miss. Every piece you publish is connected to your overall authority. Google sees the YouTube video. Google sees the blog post. Google sees the blog post with the video inside it. The post links to your site, your profile, your other work. Ding, ding, ding. This is a real human with real authority. When that human authority also points at AEO, one thing can turn into a thousand.

That is the unlock for using AI to grow your audience as a solopreneur. You stop publishing disconnected pieces. You build one connected system where everything feeds everything.

Should I give away my best work to grow faster?

Short answer: yes, and you already know your buyers will not do it themselves.

My peer and I went deep on this. We have always believed in giving away your best stuff. So imagine there is no difference between what you create and what you share. You pay to be in the room with us. Everything else is out in the open. We know most people will not actually go build it on their own. The ones who will were going to find a way regardless.

What giving it away does is show people what is possible. My purpose is to be a positive force that leads people to what they can do. You cannot lead anyone anywhere if they never see the work. Most builders are not short on capability. They are short on visibility. The fix is to show more, more often, on a line that does not stop. I dug into the publishing side of this question in whether unproduced content performs better than produced content.

Where do solopreneurs get stuck, and how do you push through it?

Uncertainty leads to inaction. If you do not know what to do next, you will not do anything. That is the real reason most solopreneurs publish in bursts and then go quiet.

The fix is the production line again. When the next move is already defined, you stop deciding and start shipping. There is no blank page. There is the next edition.

Two guardrails keep this real. First, own your distribution. Do not build your whole audience on someone else's sand. Platforms shut groups down without warning. Keep one source of truth you control, so if any single tool disappears, your business keeps running. I cover that architecture in how to build an AI-first business as a solopreneur.

Second, remember you are the gem. The AI is the amplifier. You are the one who uses it to bring the dreams to life. The worldview, the taste, the stories, the lived experience, that is the asset. AI just helps it travel.

What is the one daily move that grows your audience the most?

Find your single highest-leverage rep and do it every day. For me that answer is video. I am great on camera, it aligns with everything, and it gives me a way to show the work.

Here is an exercise I ran on the call that you can do right now. Close your eyes. It is one year from today. Your to-do list has completely changed because one thing became the engine of your whole audience. What is that one thing? Then count the reps. If you did it every day, how many did you create? That number is your real KPI. Everything else is noise.

This ties back to a principle I keep returning to. The 10X version of your work is not harder. It strips. It does not add. The path of least resistance has almost always been the most profitable for me, and the offers that worked best were the ones I built for myself first and then shared. So the daily move is not a bigger to-do list. It is the one rep that makes everything else compound.

Your next step

If you want to use AI to grow your audience as a solopreneur, do not start by building more. Start by showing more, on a system that runs itself.

Pick your one daily rep. Build the simplest production line that gets it published. Connect every piece back to your own authority. Then keep the line running. Drip, drip, drip becomes a flood.

I teach this exact system inside the Undeniable Studio, where founders and solo operators build their own connected content engine and learn to make AI the amplifier instead of the author. If you want to grow an audience that is unmistakably yours, that is where we do the work together. Come build it with me.
