The Mindful Guide To AI For Intentional Leaders

Rob Cressy
TL;DR
  • If you meditate, journal, do yoga, or live with purpose, you already have the foundation to be extraordinary with AI. Even if you're not technical, you just haven't seen the connection yet.
  • Three pillars connect your mindfulness practice to AI mastery: Intention, Precision, and Presence.
  • Gold in, gold out. The context and care you bring to your prompts is the same attention you bring to your breath, your journal, and your morning practice.
  • AI will never have soul. Your ability to infuse your vision, values, and goals into AI is what separates you from everyone treating it like Google.
  • You started somewhere with meditation. You started somewhere with yoga. AI is no different. Five minutes at a time, ones over zeros.

The most intentional people make the best AI users. If you practice mindfulness in your daily life through meditation, journaling, yoga, or living with purpose, you already have the foundation to be extraordinary with AI.

You just haven't seen the connection yet.

If you've been wondering where to start with AI, especially if you're not technical, this guide is your roadmap.

A few weeks ago, one of my favorite meditation and yoga instructors liked one of my Instagram videos about Claude. I slid into her DMs, sent her some love, and asked where she was on her AI journey.

She said she was using ChatGPT, her friends were telling her to try Claude, and she was a little overwhelmed. She didn't know where to start.

I saw that moment and thought, I have the ability to pay it forward. I can help translate performance with AI by speaking her language of intentionality and wellbeing.

Because most AI content is created by tech people, and it leads with tools, coding, and automation. That's never been how I relate to any of this.

I come from a human first, heart first perspective to AI, where you lead with your vision, your values, and your goals. So whether you're a yoga instructor, a wellness practitioner, or anyone who lives with intention, this guide is designed to help you get started without the overwhelm, and show you that everything you're already great at is exactly what makes you incredible with AI.

I'm going to break this down with three pillars. When you get these, they'll change your experience of using AI moving forward.

Three Pillars Of AI For Intentional Leaders

The connection between mindfulness and AI comes down to three pillars, and the good news is you're already practicing them every single day. Once you see how they map to AI, the overwhelm disappears and you've got a clear path forward.

Intention is what you bring before you start. Your prompt, your purpose, your context. You decide what this session is for.

Precision is attention to detail. The small things that compound. The inches that separate where you are from where you want to be.

Presence is who you are when you show up. How you stay in the practice and don't abandon it when things get hard or unfamiliar.

Let me walk you through each one.

Intention: What You Bring Before You Start

If you remember one thing from this entire guide, remember intention. It is your key to success and growth with AI.

Intention is how you show up. When you're intentional about everything in your life, from what you read, what you watch, what you eat, whether you work out, whether you journal, whether you meditate, that energy carries into everything else you do.

A lot of people treat Claude and ChatGPT like Google. No intention in what they're doing. Spray and pray.

Take a step back and ask yourself, what would it look like if I was intentional by design in the way I used AI?

When you come from this perspective, the overwhelm disappears. Because overwhelm is chaos, scattered stuff all over the place. That's the opposite of who you are as a mindful person.

You already know how to slow down. You already take the pause, give yourself an extra breath, an extra beat. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

That principle applies directly to AI. The fast fast fast, more more more mentality that most people bring to this space? That's what creates the overwhelm. Sometimes just stacking a one over a zero is the move. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. That's your key for growth.

The mindfulness practices you're already committed to, whether it's meditation, journaling, or anything in between, transfer directly to the world of AI.

Remember this for the rest of your life: there's one thing AI will never have.

Soul.

Your ability to infuse your vision, your values, your goals, and your essence into the way you use AI is an absolute game changer. I created something called Soul Data for exactly this reason. It's where I put my I Am declarations into AI. Things like, I am infinite love. I am abundantly generous and I am a giver. I am that I bring magic to life.

That special magic inside of you, the thing that makes you who you are, that belongs inside of AI too. Both in how you personalize it and how you show up when it's time to create.

If you don't know where to start, ask yourself one question: what would I love to create today?

Then put that into AI.

If you don't know what you want to create, let that question be the inquiry. Type into Claude: "I'm showing up today with intention by design, but I don't know what I want to create today. How about you ask me a few questions?"

If even that feels like too much, try one of these three things:

  1. Share what's alive in you today.
  2. Put in your dreams, goals, and vision.
  3. Share the frictions, challenges, or pain you're experiencing in your life or business right now.

That's how you roll in with intention.

Intention Also Means Consistency

It's a practice. Just like meditation, just like journaling.

One of the books I love is The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, where she teaches morning pages. The whole purpose is to take what's in your head and get it out of your head. When you do that, you open up more space for everything else. That's mindfulness right there.

AI works the same way. You grow with experience. You don't grow on the sidelines, the same way you don't get better at stretching by thinking about stretching. You've got to do it, even just five minutes at a time.

I call this stacking ones over zeros. Just show up. Get in five minutes with Claude or ChatGPT. That consistency is what creates growth.

Context Is King With Prompting

One of the biggest places beginners struggle with AI is context. Gold in, gold out. Garbage in, garbage out.

Someone might type "write me a marketing strategy." That's fine, but AI knows nothing about your business.

Now compare that to: "Write me a marketing strategy for creating daily short form videos for a yoga instructor who's building her own app, targeting moms between 30 and 55 who like Starbucks."

Completely different level of output. All you're doing is taking what's already in your head and giving AI more detail about you and your world.

Focus On One Thing At A Time

Part of the reason so many people feel overwhelmed with AI is there's too much going on. It's moving fast, I can't keep up.

Let's throw the overwhelm in the trash. It's not part of who you are as a mindful person. You can intentionally decide, for the rest of my life in AI, I refuse to be overwhelmed. Overwhelm is a lack of control, and you have complete opportunity and intention to be in control.

How? Focus on one thing at a time. Scattered prompts create scattered results.

What's that one thing in your business you want to do right now? What's that one idea you have? Start there.

When you're meditating, what do they say? Focus on the breath. When the noise and chatter pop into your head, it's not bad, just anchor back on the breath.

These practices you're doing every single day as an intentional, mindful person are the same things that help you be great with AI.

Precision: The Small Things That Compound

Precision is about attention to detail. The small things that add up over time. Your ability to notice the inches.

Think about how you pay attention to your breath when you meditate. That level of awareness, applied to how you create with AI, is what separates good from great.

For high performers, greatness is often a matter of inches. A little adjustment here, a little refinement there. Those little things are the big things. When you're creating with Claude, when you're prompting, when you're learning, your attention to detail is what creates the results.

It's the same with stretching. Put your toes up, move your body all the way to the side. Those small adjustments, that precision, that's what compounds.

A Growth Mindset Is Required

If you're brand new to AI, or you're carrying around the story of "I'm not a tech person, I know nothing about this," throw that in the trash.

Just like a mindfulness and meditation practice, AI is a journey. You started at zero with meditation. I started at zero with AI three and a half years ago. Eventually you stack enough ones over zeros that you've got 1,200 days in a row.

This is about 1% better every day. Progress compounds.

I'll share something personal here because it connects directly to what you might be feeling. One of the more challenging parts of my wellness journey has been stretching. I've worked out five days a week for 20 years, and flexibility has always been my weakest area. I couldn't touch my toes.

Last year I set a goal to change that. Using the Peloton app every day, I committed to at minimum a five minute stretch, sometimes ten.

The growth was measured in millimeters. I remember sitting there hearing "just see if you can go another millimeter further," and feeling like progress was barely visible. But eventually I got past my knees, then closer to my shins. Inch by inch.

That's the growth mindset. Everybody starts somewhere. It's not a bad thing that you're brand new to AI. It's about your willingness to get in the game. Progress over perfection.

Learning Accelerates When You Choose It

Once you're in the game and stacking ones over zeros, making micro progress without judging yourself, the next question becomes how fast do you want to grow?

Here's what I want you to know. Unlike stretching, where progress happens in millimeters over months, you can go from zero to confident with AI in a week. I can help someone do it in a day.

Your options for accelerating the learning:

Do it on your own. Stack the ones over zeros. Get in your ten minutes a day.

Watch or take a course. The same way I signed up for the Peloton app because I wanted a world class expert to help show me and I was going to follow what they were doing.

Go to a workshop or class. Just like going to a Pilates studio, a yoga studio, or a sound bath. Immerse yourself in the experience.

Hire a coach. The best way to get where you want to go is to go with someone who's already there.

AI is just like learning to ride a bike or play guitar. We can drop the romance about it. This is just part of the learning journey.

Presence: Who You Are When You Show Up

Presence is about energy. There's a presence about you, something you carry into every room, every conversation, every practice. With presence, you don't abandon things when they get hard. You don't judge yourself for struggling.

A lot of people get stuck right here with AI. They started on ChatGPT, but now everyone's telling them to use Claude. They've got data and information built up in one tool and they don't want to lose it. They've never used Claude and have no idea where to begin. So they stay stuck and do nothing, even though the people around them are saying there might be an opportunity.

Your ability to slow down and ask yourself, who am I and how do I show up to everything I'm doing right now? That's where presence lives.

Your Identity Is Your Superpower

If you're somebody who brings intention and presence to everything you do, whether that's yoga, journaling, stretching, Pilates, or sound baths, that identity is what makes you extraordinary with AI.

This is why I will always preach a human first perspective to AI. The work I've done on myself is my superpower. I'm the opposite of perfect. I had to develop self-awareness and a growth mindset by quitting my corporate job, becoming a full-time entrepreneur, and turning myself into a high performer one day at a time.

The identity you've built through your mindfulness practice, that's your ability to take everything great about you and put it into AI. Then leverage it as the thing that creates your growth.

If This Feels New Or Foreign, You've Been Here Before

About 15 years ago, I was brand new to entrepreneurship. Barely had a website, no clients, just showing up with a big dream. I was reading Fast Company and Inc. magazines, studying the habits of the most successful people in the world.

One thing I kept hearing? Meditation, meditation, meditation.

At the time, that was a hard pass. It felt super woo woo to me. Until I heard it 50 times and thought, success leaves breadcrumbs. Maybe there's something here.

Despite having zero experience with meditation, I signed up for the Headspace app. That was my zero to one. Let me just try this thing. Let me have somebody guide me along the way.

You've been through this exact same process. You started somewhere with stretching, yoga, journaling, meditation. You know what it's like to go from zero to one.

AI is no different.

Reframe How You See This

99% of the world talks about AI from a technical perspective. Tech tools and automation. I don't have a background in any of that, and I don't relate to it. I relate to what we're talking about right now. Mindfulness, wellness, and being an intentional person.

Can you be open to the possibility that everything already inside of you is actually a massive superpower in a world that's about to outsource authenticity and connection?

You know what's going to shine as things get more sterile out there? Heart. People who use AI with intention by design, in a way where the goal is to connect more with other people, not outsource everything.

AI doesn't have to be big and scary. Meditation didn't have to be big and scary either. Be open to the possibility. Create the framing for how you want to show up, then go from there.

Where do I start with AI if I'm not technical?

Start with intention. Ask yourself what you'd love to create today and type that into Claude or ChatGPT. You don't need a technical background to use AI well. The skills that matter most, clarity of purpose, attention to detail, and knowing who you are, are the same skills you build through mindfulness practices like journaling, meditation, and yoga.

How do I stay human while using AI in my business?

Lead with your vision, your values, and your goals. AI will never have soul. Your ability to put who you are into the way you use AI is what keeps the human element alive. I created something called Soul Data for exactly this, where I put my identity, my declarations, and my voice into AI so everything it helps me create sounds and feels like me.

How do I use AI for my business if I feel overwhelmed?

Focus on one thing at a time. Scattered prompts create scattered results. The overwhelm most people feel with AI comes from trying to do everything at once. Treat AI like a mindfulness practice. Show up for five minutes. Stack ones over zeros. The consistency compounds.

What does a human first approach to AI actually look like?

It means you start with who you are before you start with what AI can do. Your identity, your intention, and your presence come first. The tools come second. When you lead with Being, AI becomes a creative partner that amplifies your strengths, not a replacement for your thinking.

Your Path Forward

Everything you need is already inside of you. None of this requires a technical background, automation experience, or coding skills. It requires intention, precision, and presence. You've been building those muscles your entire life.

As you go on this AI journey, there will be a million new tools that come out. New platforms, new features, new hype. Cool. Got it.

Slow down. Connect to who you are. Show up with intention, with purpose. Take what's in your head and get it into AI. Do so in a way that makes the world a better place.

The world needs more people like you. People who lead with heart, who show up with presence, who bring intention to everything they create.

That's exactly why I built The Unlimited Method. It's my foundational AI methodology that I give to every one of my coaching clients. A human first system built to help you think, create, and lead like someone who's best in the world at this, because you are. A lot of people just don't have a system and process for how to create with AI, and that's what this gives you.
