How to Use AI to Become Your Future Self

Rob Cressy
TL;DR
  • To use AI to become your future self, point it at the vision of who you are becoming, then use it to make that vision concrete and measurable.
  • Your future self is not a someday version of you. It is the person you read into being today.
  • Speak a bigger game with no attachment to how it happens.
  • This is a personal-growth practice first, with AI as the tool that builds the proof.

If you want to know how to use AI to become your future self, start with the vision, not the tool. Most goal-setting fails because it lives three years out where it is easy to ignore. The shift that works is to become your future self now, today, and to let AI help you make that future version real and measurable. AI is the multiplier. The vision is the thing it multiplies.

This clicked for me again on a call with a founder I coach. We were doing a three-year vision session, and he said something honest, that he did not feel like he dreamed big enough. He has a good life, a great life, and that very comfort was capping how big he was willing to go. That is the exact moment where becoming your future self matters, because the size of the life you create starts with the size of the game you are willing to speak.

What does it mean to use AI to become your future self?

It means you decide who your future self is, then use AI to build the evidence that you are already becoming that person. Your future self is not a date on a calendar. It is the identity you step into now.

The book that cracked this open for me is Be Your Future Self Now by Benjamin Hardy. The reframe is simple. Champions create themselves as champions before they are champions. You do not become the person and then get the habits. You take on the habits, the language, and the standards of your future self today, and the results follow. AI becomes the partner that helps you design that future self and track whether you are living it.

How do you write a vivid vision you will actually live?

You write it as a present-tense document you read every day, not a plan you check once a year. I never connected with rigid goal frameworks. What works is a vivid vision you feel connected to, written in your own language, where every word is chosen on purpose.

The words carry the weight. "Business" and "entrepreneurial harmony" point at two different lives. "Health" and "well-being" pull you in two different directions. When you write the vision, let AI help you brainstorm the categories and the language, then choose the words that make you feel most alive reading them. This is where the personal growth and the practical build meet, and it is the same place I describe in personal development and business growth at the same time.

How do you speak a bigger game without feeling like you are lying?

You drop the attachment to how. The willingness to speak the big game is the whole point, not the certainty that you will hit it. As I told the founder, you do not need to know how you will get there. You speak it, with no attachment, and the path reveals itself.

You cannot connect the dots going forward, only backward. That is true in life and it is true with AI. You point at the outcome, and the route shows up later. So speak the vision plainly, even the parts that feel too big, and let the willingness itself start the creation. If this is new language for you, I broke it down in speak things into existence and in how to dream bigger and make it real.

How can AI help you become your future self?

AI turns the vision into something you can see and measure. Here is a real example. I wanted to give a friend a way to see how his health stacked up against the best benchmarks for his age, so I used AI to pull together around twenty research sources and build an Age Benchmark Scorecard. You put in your name, your age, your numbers, and it shows you exactly where you stand on resting heart rate, sleep, body fat, and the markers that matter.

That is the move. I pointed AI at a vision, optimal health at the next stage of life, and AI built the concrete tool that made it measurable. You can do the same with any category of your future self. Use AI to generate the dream-casting questions, to build the scorecard, to track the daily practice. The more specific you get, the better the output. The vision sets the direction, and AI builds the proof.

Why should you read your vision twice a day?

Because repetition is how the future self becomes the present self. I read my seven-page vision once in the morning and once at night. Morning plants the intention. Night lets the subconscious work on it while I sleep. Three to five minutes a read, every day.

Almost nobody does this. Over three years that is more than a thousand reads of the person you are becoming. The fear and doubt will show up, the voice that says it is selfish or who are you to want that. You let it speak and you give it no vote. The daily read is what keeps you anchored to your future self long enough for the life to catch up.

Who is this future-self approach actually for?

It is for the person who already does well and senses there is another level they are not naming. If you have built a good life and you feel the pull toward a bigger one, this is the practice that opens it. AI makes it faster, more concrete, and easier to track, but the work is yours.

You become your future self by deciding who that person is, speaking their game today, and using AI to build the evidence that you are already on the way. The mindset shifts that changed how I use AI all start here, with who you are being.

Your next step

Write one page as your future self, three years out, in present tense. Pick the words on purpose. Then ask AI to turn one category of that vision into a scorecard you can measure this month. Read the page in the morning and at night. That is how you start becoming your future self now.
