- Here is how to use AI to write your vivid vision: bring the raw material yourself and let AI distill it. The vision comes from you. AI tightens and combines.
- A vivid vision covers your whole life across categories like well-being, family, adventure, and how you want to feel. A business plan covers only the company.
- Write the first line of every category by hand. That sets the tone AI can never fake.
- Use real images with hidden personal Easter eggs so the document pulls you in every time you open it.
- The finish line is embodiment. You read it, you feel it, you live it.
If you want to know how to use AI to write your vivid vision, start with one rule that changes everything. You bring the raw material. AI distills it. When you ask AI to generate the whole vision from a blank page, you get something that sounds like everyone else and moves no one, starting with you.
I learned this building my own vivid vision three years ago, back in the early days of AI. Last week I sat with a founder I coach who was rebuilding his. He had listened to the vivid vision audiobook twice in two weeks, and a hard truth landed on him. What he thought was his vivid vision was actually a business plan. It only talked about the company. His whole life was missing from it.
That gap is the reason most vision documents go stale in a drawer. Here is how to build one that stays alive, and exactly where AI belongs in the process.
What is a vivid vision, and how is it different from a business plan?
A vivid vision is a written, present-tense picture of your life three years out, across every category that matters to you. Well-being. Family. Adventure. Your business. Your money. The way you want to feel when you wake up.
A business plan answers one question: where is the company going. Powerful, and far too small to run your life on. The founder I coach had spent years believing the business had to lift him first, and then he could be a better father and husband. Reading his own words back, he saw he had only ever written the company chapter.
Your vivid vision holds all of it. That is the whole point.
How do you use AI to write your vivid vision the right way?
Here is the rule I gave him, and the one I used on my own. Bring the raw material first. Let AI distill it second.
Take one category, say well-being, and free-write. Seventeen messy bullet points. Half-formed lines. Things you would feel a little silly saying out loud. Then hand that pile to AI and ask the real questions. What overlaps here? What can be tighter? What two lines are actually one line?
AI is strong at combining and compressing what already exists. It is weak at inventing a life it has never lived. So I lean on it late in the process, after the vision is already sketched by hand, and almost never at the blank-page stage. Your job is the substance. AI's job is the polish.
Get this backwards and you can feel it right away. The vision reads smooth and says nothing.
Why should you write the first line of every category yourself?
The first line of a category sets the tone for everything under it. That line is yours to write.
When you open the well-being section and read your own opening beat, your body should respond. AI can format that. AI cannot feel it for you. So before you hand anything over, write the first sentence of each category by hand, and decide the order they appear in. Tone and sequence are human work. The distilling in the middle is where AI earns its keep.
How do you write a vivid vision that actually moves you?
Write in beats, not paragraphs. Keep it to two sentences at a time. Each line breathes because each line is a goal.
Write declarations in the present, as if they are already true. This is the same move I use to build as my future self now. Instead of "I want to get in shape," you write "For my health, I am a model of consistency." I wrote "I have a gym in my garage" a full year before that gym existed. When I read it, the great gym was already there, waiting for me to catch up to my own words.
Personalize the categories to your actual life. The founder I coach gets bored senseless in a gym and comes alive outdoors, so his well-being category became fitness in the wild. Nature, not a treadmill. Give yourself permission to dream bigger than feels comfortable, because you will read this vision more than a thousand times a year and it has to sound like you.
How do you make your vivid vision pull you in every time you read it?
Add images, chosen by category, each one carrying a real personal connection. I built mine from twenty years of my own photos, the same instinct behind turning a vision board into something that actually pulls you forward. Every picture holds a story only I know.
Then hide Easter eggs inside them. In one of my images, the black speckles across the top look like a night sky. They are the fiber-optic ceiling of a Rolls-Royce Phantom I once climbed into at a dealership, uninvited, just to touch it and smell it and take the photo. I know it is there, and it means something to me. Go sit in the Rolls-Royce. A hundred percent of the people who never sit in one never get one.
How do you use AI to write your vivid vision without flattening your voice?
Guard the two places AI should never touch: how you talk to yourself, and the feeling you are aiming for.
Give yourself a self-talk goal for the year. Design the way you speak to yourself on purpose. One of my declarations is "Abracadabra, I create as I speak," because I believe you speak things into existence, so I hold my own language to a high standard even on a bad day. The founder I coach had lost his temper on a contractor an hour before our call. The reframe was not to excuse it. It was to raise the bar he reads every morning: "My language is impeccable." Then ask the honest question. What did I create with those words?
My vivid vision ends on a line most people would never expect to close a big, ambitious document: "I am blissful, calm, and at peace with everything." That is the feeling I am building toward. That line came from me, and no tool would have handed it to me.
What do you do once the vision is written?
Live it. The document is the start, and being the document is the work.
Once the categories are filled and the images are in, the real practice begins. You read it, you feel it, you let it shape how you show up today. I am in the final stretch of a vivid vision I wrote in 2023, and reading it now the question is simple and a little humbling. What have I not done yet? How am I already creating this state of being right now? I called my shot years ago. The words came first. The life followed.
That is how to use AI to write your vivid vision. You supply the soul. AI sharpens the words. Then you go be the person on the page.
