How can you use AI for personal development and business growth at the same time?

You use AI for personal development and business growth at the same time by making one decision instead of two. You decide who you are becoming, and you let AI carry the work that used to keep you too busy to become that person. The personal shift and the business result stop being separate goals. They become the same move.

I watched this happen in real time this week. I run a live group coaching session every Tuesday, and one member had said a few weeks back that he wanted to double his business. The word double stuck with me. Because doubling usually means doing more of the same, harder. So I built the whole session around a different idea: 10x is easier than 2x. To 10x, you do not add more. You get more focused, you go all in on the one thing only you can do, and you hand the rest to AI.

That is the bridge between personal growth and business growth. The thing you have to let go of is also the thing that has been holding your business flat.

Why do personal development and business growth move together?

They move together because a business grows to the size of the person running it. A founder I coach said it cleanest at the end of our session. The exercise asked him what he would have to provide to earn a much bigger payday, and he kept circling back to one word. Who you have to become. The becoming of that person, he said, is the big deal.

That is the whole game. Your business does not 10x because you found a better tactic. It 10x because you became someone who operates at a different level, charges with a different kind of confidence, and stops drifting into work that does not matter.

Another member named the thing that keeps most people stuck. He called it the invisible ceiling. False beliefs about your limits that you do not even know you are holding. He had built a real business, he had the resources, and he was still capped, not by the market, but by a story he was telling himself. When he saw the ceiling, he wanted it gone.

AI does not remove that ceiling for you. The personal work does. AI clears the runway so you actually have the time and headspace to do the personal work. That is why using AI for personal development and business growth at the same time works. One frees up the other.

What is the 80% that keeps you busy but stuck?

The 80% is everything you do that keeps you busy but sits outside your unique ability. Your unique ability is the small set of things no one else can do the way you do them, where you create the most value. Everything else is the 80%.

I asked each person in the session a hard question. What is the 80% of your life keeping you busy but unproductive, because it is pulling you away from your unique ability? One founder who runs a property business gave the honest answer most high performers avoid. He said he chases too many squirrels. When he is focused, he is unstoppable. The night before our call he had been deep in a build until late, and he described it like building a rocket ship instead of answering emails. Then most days he drifts into low-level work he does not need to touch.

Here is the part that matters for AI. This book about 10x was written before AI existed. Back then, letting go of the 80% meant hiring people or just dropping things. Now the 80% has somewhere to go. You build agents and routines that absorb the busywork, the same way you might hand the busywork to AI to replace a $50,000 hire. The 80% does not disappear. It gets done by a system you design once.

That design layer is where you live now. One member is building exactly this, the foundation before the agents. He described it like pouring concrete and framing a house before you add rooms. How do you find your unique ability so AI can handle the rest?

You find your unique ability by answering one question honestly: what is the thing no one else can do where you provide the most value? Then you protect that 20% and route everything else to AI.

In the session, the answers surprised people. A high-performance coach in the group first said he could systematize anything. True, but I saw something deeper. His real unique ability was coaching faith-based high performers in a way no one else could, with systems underneath the faith, the family, and the health all working together. He lives it himself, six days a week, not seven, and everything he teaches he is actually doing.

The property founder struggled to name his at first, then landed on it. World-class problem solving and a resilient mindset. He admitted he is not the best operator, so he hires good operators. The weakness flipped on its head became the unique ability.

My own is the combination of being a world-class AI practitioner, a world-class personal growth practitioner, and doing both live in front of people. Nobody else rolls in with those three together in this exact way.

Once you can name your 20%, the AI strategy gets simple. You are not trying to automate everything. You are protecting the few things that are uniquely yours and using AI for personal development and business growth by clearing the path to them. This is part of what separates high performers who use AI from everyone drowning in tools.

What is the dream-check exercise and how does it grow both you and your business?

The dream check is a short exercise that uses your biggest past payday to reverse-engineer the bigger version of you. It grows both the person and the business because it forces you to see the value you would have to deliver and the person you would have to become to deliver it.

Here is how it runs. First, write down the most you have ever been paid for one project or one piece of your best work. Second, 10x that number. I have been paid $5,000 to speak, so my dream check is $50,000, and the bigger version is $100,000. Third, ask the real question. What specific value would I need to provide so that this dream check feels like a no-brainer, an extreme bargain, to the person writing it? Fourth, reverse-engineer who you have to become to make that value real.

When I sat in my own answer, the wild part hit me. I am already that person. A $100,000 room for me looks like a small mastermind of high performers, each paying to spend a focused experience building AI operating systems with me, walking out with millions in potential value. I can do that with my eyes closed because I have already been doing it. The number was not the obstacle. Committing to go after it was.

The coach in the group saw his version. A single speaking engagement could pay for a house manager he wanted, the exact thing pulling him away from his unique ability. He was one yes away from a domino he had been treating as years out.

I will be honest about one thing. I built that prompt in the seven minutes I had before a coaching call, while my AI tool was down for the morning. It is not a polished, validated system. The power was never in the prompt. The power was in the questions, and in people letting themselves answer without flinching. What is the through-line that connects all of it?

The through-line is certainty. The coach in the group named it at the end. You have to provide certainty for someone to write the big check. You are giving them their life back. They do not want to wonder. In an uncertain world, certainty is the thing people pay the most for.

You cannot fake certainty. It is a personal development outcome. It comes from becoming someone who has actually done the work, who has clarity on the value they bring, who is not secretly hoping it works out. That is why personal growth and business growth are the same project. The certainty that closes the bigger deal is the certainty you build inside yourself first.

So the loop completes. You grow the person, the person carries more certainty, the certainty earns the bigger number, and AI holds the 80% so you have the room to keep becoming that person. That is what it means to use AI for personal development and business growth at the same time.

What can you actually do with this?

  1. Name your unique ability. Write the one thing no one else can do the way you do it, where you create the most value. Be specific.
  2. Find your 80%. List the work that keeps you busy but lives outside that unique ability. These are your AI candidates.
  3. Design before you delegate. Build the structure first, the dashboard, the metrics, the routine registry, so the agents you add later have a foundation to stand on.
  4. Run the dream check. Your biggest past payday, times ten. Then ask what value makes that a bargain, and who you would have to become to deliver it.
  5. Commit to one move. Nothing happens until after you commit. Pick the one 10x thing and protect time for it first thing in your day, before the squirrels show up.

The reason most people never grow the business is that they never grow the person. They optimize tasks, they add tools, they grind harder at the 2x version of their life.
