  • Yes And Mindset: Support your guest, build them up. Think of yourselves as a team and your goal is to make them look amazing.
  • Compliment your guest: One way to have a Yes And mindset is to compliment your guest before you start recording or early on in your podcast. They will appreciate the compliment and mirror that positivity back to you.
  • Bring the energy: No one wants monotone, that’s boring. Let your passion and heartbeat shine. Here’s a simple trick to help you with this: think of your energy level on a scale of 1-10. Whatever you are at, raise it one or two.
  • Smile at the beginning: This is important when you are also recording video. By smiling you’ll bring positive energy, plus the first few frames of your video will having you looking friendly. Remember: Smiles don’t lie.
  • Be prepared: The way you do this is by writing a script or rundown ahead of time. That way you are in charge of the conversation and can lead it where you want it to go. Being in control also helps you be more confident.
  • Have a metronome in your head for talking time: This matters for how long you or your guest is talking, because this should be a conversation. You don’t want either of you going on for long periods of time.
  • Have a metronome in your head for length of your podcast: You also want to be aware of how long your podcast is. If your show is 30 minutes then you need to make sure your pacing is good so you finish at 30 minutes. This becomes especially important when a guest has only a specific amount of time available (ex. 20 minutes). You need to be able to respect their time limits and that of your listeners. That’s what professional do.
  • Involve your audience and give them an opportunity to engage: That’s what builds a community. That’s how they will engage and speak back to you. It helps build a connection.
