How To Stop Overthinking Content Creation
I wanted to share a content creation mindset based on a challenge one of my clients was having around overthinking what to do.
He said “Rob, this morning inspiration struck me right after I was done meditating. I wanted to create a post about it. Then I found myself overthinking it – do I create this as a picture with a caption or as a video?”
Because he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do he ended up not creating anything.
Here are 3 tips for how to stop overthinking content creation:
1. There is no right or wrong answer. Choose a path and create it. The only way you lose is if you don’t create. Action over excuses.
2. Anchor yourself: will this help other people? If yes, create it.
3. See yourself as a creator. Focus on the act of creation, not the end results. Think like a painter. They like to paint for the joy of painting. Sure selling a painting is nice, but that can’t be the only measure of success of a painter. It’s more about the act of painting, and once something is created anything on top of that is gravy.
Underneath the internal question of “Am I supposed to do this?” is a feeling of judgement. When I put out my creation, am I going to be judged?
And the answer is, it doesn’t matter. It’s the act of creation that matters most.
Express yourself. Share with the world. Do what lights you up.
When you do, great things will happen.
